The Vrhovi Balkana trail is 192 km long, it passes through three countries, Albania, Montenegro and Kosovo, it is one of the best and most beautiful hiking trails in Europe, it passes through untouched and wild areas of the Prokletija Range. It rises to more than 2,300 meters above sea level, entering the most beautiful villages, valleys, and lakes that take your breath away. Until a few years ago, this region was almost inaccessible to hikers, only the few and persistent knew its secrets, and now it is available to every lover of pure nature and preserved authenticity.
It takes 10-13 days to go around the entire trail, which depends on the readiness of the mountaineer. One can start in any of these three countries, i.e. in Thethi - Albania, Pec - Kosovo and Plav - Montenegro. If you are not determined to hike the entire trail, then you can, with the help of a hiking guide, visit a part of it that attracts you the most.
The trail is fully marked, so you can't get lost. One third of the trail passes through Montenegro, i.e. Plavsko-Gusinj Prokletije, it can be said that it is the most beautiful part of the Peaks of the Balkans, hiking through Prokletije you have the opportunity to see Plavsko and Hridsko lakes, known as Gorske oči Prokletije, the beautiful Ropojana valley and Ropojansko lake, the Babinopolska valley , many villages, katuns and several mountain lodges, where you are always welcome. You are also welcome in the visitor center of the Prokletije National Park, where you can learn more about the flora and fauna of Prokletije, and buy some of the souvenirs from this region. The culture and tradition of Plavo and Gusinja will also delight you, there are numerous mosques, churches and towers.
